SUPPORT / RULES & REGULATIONS

Scheduling games, changes, cancellations & booking referees --- things you need know

Athletic directors and coaches, please talk to each other and try to coordinate your games so referees will have a full evening – 2+ games.  It’s much easier to attract referees this way.

Any changes to schedule must be done a minimum of 48 hours prior to original schedule.

Less than 48 hour notice with any changes will require full payment of original schedule.

We will make every effort to facilitate additional games.

If you are coordinating a tournament please provide us with the details ASAP. Tournaments typically require more referees and coordination work prior and during the games from our perspective.

Basketball is a game requiring 2 referees on the court, and we have received a number of concerns from our pool of referees about single referee games.  We will not be providing this service going forward.

School supplied referees must be either known to us, or go through our training clinic and mentoring tournament. There are exceptions and we will discuss this with the athletic director.

As a referee working with us —things you need to know

You are being paid an honorarium fee, which means we will not withhold any earnings.

You are not employed by B&W.

Your game earnings will be based upon the level of game and seniority.

We will make every effort to match referees with appropriate game levels.

We will at times, place junior referees with senior referees for mentoring.

We will make every effort to keep travel time to a minimum, there will be exceptions.

We expect referees to attend our clinics – there will only be a few, so it is important.

Our dress code on court is dark or black running shoes, black pants and striped jersey – tucked in.

Management and other referees need to be able to reach you – mobile phone please!

Booking games means committing to be there – avoid changes please.

If you are assigned an evening at a school, you are expected to work all the games – no partial evenings.

Be punctual – arrive 10-15 minutes prior to game.

It’s great PR to introduce yourselves to coaches, managers, players and audience.

Back each other up on the court – we all make mistakes , discuss, don’t contradict.
