SUPPORT / ETHICS & BY-LAWS

We are an organization that provide basketball officials to a number of schools, leagues, organizations and clubs in the greater Calgary area.

We may not make the game more exciting, but we do make it fair, safe and played according to the rules of the game.

We work as a team, whether we are on the court or off, by supporting each other in an effort to make the game of basketball a great experience for everybody involved. We do this by providing a safe, fair and fun experience for everybody.

This requires more than what many people can imagine, but to put it in simple terms, the basketball court is our office, our business, and that means we need to know what’s going on at all times. If somebody has a question we need to be able to answer it. That’s why we work as a team, nobody is perfect, but collectively we can probably provide an answer.

As referees we are responsible for the well-being of everybody on the court and the audience as well. That means we control our space and keep it working in a certain way. If something happens to disrupt it, our job is to correct the problem. It does happen, but there are ways to minimize the problem and keep the flow of the game moving in a positive manner.

The onus is with all the participants on the court to help in providing a safe, fair and fun experience for everybody. This includes, the players, coaches, managers, referees and families who come to watch their sons, daughters and friends play. As referees our job is to control what is happening on the court and sidelines, and to do our part in making the game a great experience.

When we use the numerous facilities throughout the greater Calgary area, our civic duty extends beyond the walls of the building. Parking lots and streets have rules and regulations that we are expected to follow. Please be courteous when parking your vehicle. There are many occasions when parking is at a premium, driveways and lawns are not an option. We as a basketball community need to extend our philosophy from the court to the community we live in

We as a basketball community are also collectively responsible for the facilities that the games are held in. Each of the schools, community centres, and athletic centres has certain expectations of what is acceptable behaviour and use of the facilities. Each and every one of us is responsible for adhering to these rules. If we don’t know the rules, a bit of common sense is a good place to start and beyond that, the regulations are usually posted somewhere obvious.

Please help out by doing your part.
