The sport of basketball was started in Canada – it must be good then!
As a referee you make a difference – every game you officiate helps 25 to 30 people have a safe, enjoyable, and fair game.
Did you know as a minor sport referee in Canada your income is an ‘honorarium’, and not taxable. That’s right from the CRA!
The sport is growing and the demand for referees is growing as well. That makes it a great side gig!

In case you haven’t noticed, the interest in playing basketball is growing exponentially in the greater Calgary area. For that matter, it’s become a worldwide phenomenon with young people across the globe discovering the game.
We are very happy to support basketball by ensuring that the game is played safely, fairly and by the book. Most of our officials come from a background of playing, coaching and now refereeing the game. They love the game and want to do their part to ensure it’s played by the rules.
