POSTS THE POSSIBILITY OF AN EXTENDED SEASON Post Archives As we all know by now, the shortage of referees that we experienced last season has continued into this season, and most likely will take a few years before we might see these numbers get back to where they need to be. The problem has affected not only basketball but all types of minor sports throughout the country. Again, this is the result of the restrictions necessary to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, and the inability to organize any sort of group activity. POSTS BASKETBALL IS BACK IN CALGARY Post Archives Not only is it back, but it came roaring back with new schools, new teams and an intent to get back what it had lost over the last few years. There have been some casualties of the COVID pandemic, one being the pool of referees that we have to work with. It’s not just basketball that has been hard hit, but all organized sports have seen a large decline in the number of available officials. With no new recruits added to the system for the last two years, and many referees retiring for various reasons, our pool of referees is very low. …
